Hi! My name is Emily, the candle maker. I’m married to my awesome and goofy husband, Ben, and we have a sweet pup named Rico. Candle making is one of my fun little hobbies. I decided to learn how to make candles because I love having my home smell good, having it feel warm and cozy, and I simply enjoy creating different things. Candle making seemed to be a good fit for me. I set out to learn how to make candles well so that they are fragrant, burn evenly, and hopefully burn cleaner than your typical store-bought candle. I was dissatisfied with candles purchased at stores because often times I would spend money on a candle that did not evenly burn and left half the wax in the container. How frustrating! After researching and trial and error, I found a way to make candles so that they would utilize all the wax. I chose soy wax because from my research I had learned that it is easy to work with, is better for the environment, helps support soybean farmers, burns nicely, and burns cleaner than most candles if made properly. I aim to keep my candles simple and do that by using 100% soy wax, no additives, and no dyes. I use a high quality fragrance oil and most of the oils I utilize are phthalate free. The wicks I typically use are made of hemp and some of cotton. Lastly, candle making is so fun as I get to experiment with different fragrance combinations and make my house smell awesome!
